The Commission seeks a successor with vision to build on the work of the current Secretary who retires in May 2022. Reporting to the Chairman and Commissioners and with a small staff, the Secretary is responsible for controlling the Commission’s activities including managing its competitive fellowship and studentship programmes, its special awards and legacy cultural estate in South Kensington, where the office is located.
Candidates should have a strong senior leadership and management track record ideally in engineering or science and with experience of higher education and charity sectors. They should have well-honed diplomatic, social, communication and financial skills as well as an eye for detail and above all, the flair and wisdom to take the Commission forward, continuing to raise its profile and develop activities within its Charter aims.
Nominally four days a week, this is seen as a long-term appointment requiring dedication and flexibility, including representing the Commission out of working hours. Salary up to £100k pro rata; 15% contribution to personal pension.
